In 2020, Ruby finally felt confident enough to share her true identity with her parents and, ultimately, with the whole world. Admittedly, more time has passed since the failed therapy, but since then her mom and dad have “watched with surprise and pride as [their] son became [their] daughter Ruby.”

Jamie Lee Curtis and actor, screenwriter and director Christopher Guest have been married since 1984, they have a daughter together, Annie, who is nine years older than Ruby. In 2020, Ruby invited her parents to the family home in Los Angeles to share her truth, but at first she couldn’t.

“It was scary-just the fact that I told them something they didn’t know about me. It was scary, but I wasn’t worried. They’ve been so good to me all my life,” Ruby said in an interview.

Instead of telling her parents, Ruby left and texted her mother. “I called her right away. Needless to say, there were a few tears,” recalls Jamie Lee.

Since then, Ruby has reached the point where it is convenient for her to talk publicly about her journey, and by doing so, she hopes to help others.

“I’ve been trying to stay out of the limelight for years, or at least doing my best. I’m glad to be more visible if it helps others,” she said.

It was a new experience for Jamie Lee. “I speak a new language. This is the study of new terminology and words,” she said. “I’m new to this. I’m not one of those people who pretends to know a lot about it. And I’m going to mess it up, I’m going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid serious mistakes.”
