Austin raised Nicole Saunders after her mother abandoned her to live overseas when she was five. Austin loved Nicole, gave her the finest, and never denied her wishes.
Rich hotel owner Austin Saunders. But nothing in his life was easy. He started as a loader at a small motel and rose to the top after years of hard work, part-time jobs, and community college business courses.
Due to his workaholism, he neglected his daughter and made her entitled and arrogant. Then she did the unthinkable one day…
Nicole and her friends relaxed in her father’s hotel. After partying and listening to loud music, their hotel room became a dump with empty beer bottles, food platters, and chips packets.
Nicole had called a maid to clean the room, but the music was too loud to hear her ring the doorbell for a long time. Nicole rolled her eyes and insulted the maid as she opened the door. “What took so long? Can’t you do your job well?
She suddenly heard her father’s voice over the speakers as she left the room. “Nicole! Please visit my office now!”
“I’m sorry, miss,” Rose, the maid, said softly. „I was waiting outside for five minutes, but the loud music prevented you from hearing me.”
“Woah!” Nicole grinned. “Slow down, woman! Since this is my hotel, I can do whatever I want! Never respond to me! She took a bell from her backpack and remarked, “You know what?” I saw a kid selling this on the street while driving here, so I bought it. Guess you’ll need it. This lets us hear you enter the room!” She laughed and put the bell around Rose’s neck while Ashley, her friend, videotaped.
Rose, tearful, tried to remove the bell, but Nicole grabbed her hands and dragged it down her neck. “Do what I say or lose your goddamn low-wage job. Do you comprehend?
At that time, Rose had to follow Nicole’s directions. She cleaned the entire hotel room while Nicole’s pals recorded everything on their phones.
Unfortunately, Nicole didn’t know their hotel room door was open. Austin passed by the room and heard her yelling at Rose. He went back to his workplace instead of confronting his daughter.
Nicole threw a $100 dollar on the floor while Rose cleaned. Consider this your tip. She joked, “Make sure the room is clean or you’ll get a salary cut,” before leaving her room with her pals.
Nicole heard her father’s voice on a loudspeaker moments later. “Nicole! He demanded immediate entry to his office.
Nicole and her friends seemed worried. Best wishes, Nicole! Guess your dad finally saw us!” One of her companions chirped as they left her. Fearful, she went to Austin’s office.
“Hey, dad,” she said entering. “Did you call?”
“Oh, yes, come on in!” he said, scanning a file.
Nicole was frightened when her father stopped her from sitting. “I never asked you to sit down!” he raged. “What are you doing here at this time? Nicole—shouldn’t you be in class?
Nicole pretended to laugh. Dad, college’s on break! So I thought I could hang out with my mates here? Our month-long break!”
“So you have a month off from school. Is that right? he demanded.
“Yes, you could say that!”
“Ok then,” he placed the paperwork on his table and placed a maid’s costume on it. Prepare to labor here till school starts. You’ll be a maid for a month starting today!”
“What?” Shocked, Nicole. Come on, dad! Are you kidding?”
Nicole, I’m afraid not. You must work to comprehend that money doesn’t grow on trees, he said.
“No way, dad!” Nicole replied. I’m not doing this!
“All right,” he lamented. Consider canceling your credit cards and no more pocket money. How about that?”
But Dad, that’s wrong! How could—
I mentioned the criteria, Nicole! Your choice: become a maid or lose your cards and pocket money!
Nicole realized she was trapped. Although she grudgingly accepted to work, she knew the days ahead would be difficult.
Nicole cleaned a couple’s room with wine-stained carpet on her first shift. Nicole had no cleaning skills. The spots persisted despite her thorough rubbing.
While walking by the room, Rose volunteered to help. Though embarrassed, Nicole muttered thanks.
Rose grinned warmly. It’s fine. Your first day will be difficult! Don’t worry—you’ll get it!”
Rose helped Nicole through her first week of work like an angel. Nicole realized she was wrong to humiliate Rose and felt bad. She became friends with Rose and took her maid work seriously, as Rose had taught her.
Rose once told Nicole, “You know what, Nicole.” Maids do more than serve rooms. It involves taking care of guests’ requirements to make their stay comfortable. Maids do more than clean!
Nicole knew that, and she was relieved to finally be independent.
Her friends’ booked room was the one she was called to clean. After seeing her in a maid’s outfit, they laughed at her while partying.
Nicole, good Lord!” Ashley mocked her. “Look at yourself! It’s dreadful! You look like a servant!”
“Shut up and let me do my job, Ashley,” Nicole replied. “I’m not in the mood to fight.”
“Woah! Stay calm! Neither do I want to fight. “I was just wondering…,” she paused. “What if your father discovers we’re not on break and you were expelled six months ago? Oh, he wouldn’t like it!” Ashley laughed, and her pals did too.
Nicole kept quiet since she was afraid to tell her father. She cleaned up and left quickly. But Ashley kept teasing her, saying things that enrage her.
Nicole lost her temper and shouted, “Enough, Ashley!” You and your foolish cronies must leave his place now or I’ll contact security!”
“Hi Nicole! Watch what you say, okay? Ashley replied. Otherwise, we’ll inform your dad you were expelled from college!
“All right, go! Not afraid! Regardless, he deserves the truth!” Nicole yelled. “I regret becoming friends with you. You’re not even pals! You will both betray each other eventually. Ashley, count three! You and your companions must go by then or I’ll contact security! One, two, three… The girls ran from the room.
Nicole collapsed in tears. She regretted bullying Rose. Her expulsion and everything else were told to Austin that day.
She said, “I’m sorry, dad,” dropping her head. “I betrayed your trust and did wrong. Dad, no college break. I was expelled six months ago and lied to you, but I’ll pay for it!”
You were expelled? Austin looked at her, disbelieving.
“Yes, dad, but I’ll repay you. I will work and—
Austin stood up and hugged her. Do you know how proud I am of you, Nicole? Good job!
“Dad?” Shocked, she. She felt Austin would chastise her and never forgive her. He was proud of her! Why?
Dad, I haven’t done anything to make you proud. I took advantage of your trust and spent all your tuition money partying with my pals! Are you furious at me?
Nicole, I’m disappointed. I’m really upset,” Austin said. I know everything. I know how you and your pals treated Rose. I overheard everything… I know you were expelled since your friend Ashely sent me a message early on. I wasn’t expecting you to admit everything, but you did. You should be forgiven now!
“Sweetheart, nobody is terrible; we just make bad decisions and mistakes. If we own our mistakes and fix them, we should be forgiven.”
“Oh, Dad!” Nicole wept. “I don’t deserve this!”
You do, Nicole,” he said. “You can manage the hotel after you finish as a maid! You can start a better job!”
Nicole declined. “No, Dad! Want to earn it. Part-time maid job will continue as I finish my degree. Rose deserves an apology too. Just thought you should raise her. She’s generous and taught me a lot.”
“What a wonderful idea!” Austin exclaimed. “Good job, Nicole! Very proud of you!”
What can this story teach us?
Never degrade someone for their job or rank. Nicole mocked Rose for being a maid, but after walking in her shoes, she realized she was wrong.
Kindness and generosity are always in style. Rose was kind and helpful to Nicole despite her attacks.
It all comes full circle. Nicole disdained Rose since she was a hotel maid. Karma came up with her, and she was humiliated like Rose. She learned her lesson then.
